About This Course

For most sports fans, weekends are the times when you can just sit back, relax and watch your favourite teams or athletes play on TV.

It’s even better if you happen to have tickets to watch them live.

For sports journalists, however, that time of the week tends to be the busiest. This is when they are reporting on the ins and outs of the teams, the players and telling the stories that people want to hear about before, during and after the events.

I’m Faras Ghani, a digital editor at Al Jazeera English and the lead for aljazeera.com’s coverage of the Qatar World Cup 2022.

On this e-course, we will learn about sports journalism, from writing news and features to finding that human-interest angle that makes your story stand out from the rest.

And how, in the world of digital journalism, you will be able to adapt a story across multiple platforms to reach audiences of various age groups, tastes and interests.

So join me here at Ahmed bin Ali stadium, home to Qatar’s Al Rayyan football club and one of the World Cup 2022 stadiums - and let’s get started.
