Workshop: Media Ethics from the Global South

Understanding Media Imperialism and Media Bias: A Critical Examination of Media Ethics of Western Reporting on Gaza and Palestine from a Global South Perspective

The one-year Israeli aggression of Gaza, the current aggression on Lebanon, and many other events around the world come packed with Western imperialist points of view and narratives. So, how do we unpack the information from media and detach it from that imperialist narrative? What is the media literacy needed to arm ourselves as information consumers?

Description: This two-days webinar will focus on the bilateral relationship between journalism and media imperialism to discuss the war on media ethics, drawing on examples from the current genocide in Palestine as well as the long history of imperialist war in the Southwest Asia and North Africa region.

Discover how Western media has failed to tell the full story of Gaza and Palestine, and why critical media literacy is essential for ethical journalism. Learn to see beyond the headlines and empower yourself with the tools to discern bias and demand accountability. This webinar is a conversation on how to uphold media ethics from a Global South perspective.
